WHAT IS CHILD ABUSE?

Child abuse is any mistreatment or neglect that causes harm to a child 18 years old or younger. This can include sexual, emotional, and physical abuse, as well as neglect.

PHYSICAL ABUSE

Child physical abuse is the non accidental injury of a child. This happens when a child has been hurt or injured, and it is not an accident and it does not necessarily always leave visible marks or injuries. Examples of such are; hitting,choking, shaking, smothering, throwing, biting, poisoning, burning, and the use of physical restraints.

SEXUAL ABUSE

Child sexual abuse happens when an adult, teenager or child uses their power or authority to involve another child in sexual activity. Forms of child sexual abuse include engaging in sexual activities with a child (whether by asking or pressuring, or by other means), indecent exposure (of the genitals, female nipples, etc.), child grooming, and child sexual exploitation, including using a child to produce child pornography.

EMOTIONAL ABUSE

Emotional abuse happens when a child is treated in a way that negatively impacts their social, emotional or intellectual development. this form of abuse can be caused by acts such as name calling, bullying, yelling, teasing, criticism isolation or locking a child up for extended periods exposure to domestic or any form of violence.

NEGLECT

Neglect happens when a child's basic needs are not met, which leads to negative impact on their health and development. The child's basic needs include: food, personal hygiene, adequate clothing, housing and clean living conditions, health care and adequate supervision.

NEGLECT

A case of neglect, which lead to poor health due to lack of food and poor living condition.

WHO IS A MINOR?

In law, a minor is a person below the legal age of majority or adulthood, usually the age of majority legally demarcates childhood from adulthood.

The age of majority depends upon jurisdiction and application, but it is generally 18.

The age of majority varies in different countries, and even in different jurisdictions within a country. It also differs with the type of activity concerned, such as marrying, purchasing alcohol, or driving an automobile.

Twenty-one years is a common division between minors and adults.
