GENDER INEQUALITY

Gender inequality is the social phenomenon in which men and women are not treated equally. This usually arises as a result of distinctions regarding biology, psychology, or cultural norms prevalent in the society. Some of which are empirically grounded, while others appear to be social constructs. In general, Gender based inequality refers to the health, education, economic and political inequalities between men and women. However, Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, it is also a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.

REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

This is based on maternal mortality ratio and adolescent birth rates.

Reproductive health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. When reference is made to Reproductive Health it covers all matters relating to the reproductive system and to its functions and processes.

It implies that every human is able to have a satisfying and safe sex life. This also means that they have the capability to reproduce and the freedom to decide if, when and how often to do so. Reproductive health is a fundamental human right and it has to do with choice.

EMPOWERMENT

This is based on right to influence changes for themselves

Empowerment is the authority or power given to someone to do something. It is also the process of becoming stronger and more confident, especially in controlling one’s life and claiming one’s rights.

There is an increasing need for women’s empowerment inorder to  help promote their sense of self-worth, ability to determine their own choices, and right to influence social change for themselves and others.

Closely aligned with female empowerment – a fundamental human right that’s also key to achieving a more peaceful, prosperous world.

DEROGATOTY AND OPPRESSIVE SOCIAL NORMS

This is based on the society subjugation on the female gender.

The society haas certain norms in place which automatically implies that the female gender is less.

This is seen in all strata of life, the workplace, schools, homes etc.
